Getting Out of Their Way
I recently attended ASB Unplugged in Mumbai. The first day was a pre-conference day where I participated in a full day workshop about Diving Deeper into Thinking with Scott McCleod. He was a dynamic presenter and I loved his ideas so I decided to subscribe to his blog, Dangerously Irrelevant. I just received the first email with his latest posting. It contained a number of videos, not just by Scott, that I found inspiring. I am posting the link to one of his where he talks about how we can make the extracurricular the curricular in terms of technology. It isn’t very long so I encourage you to watch it.
New Courses Means Refreshing Blog
Now that I’ve embarked on six courses with the Future Ready Teachers with EdTechTeamOnline, I need to post what I’m learning. I started this blog a few years ago when I was taking courses with UW Stout and USD. I look forward to maintaining it this time with an eye to connecting more with social media.
Paper li
For my third USD class, I had to curate sources and resources for the classroom. I decided to create a Paper li since I hadn’t done one yet. In the past, I have curated using Live Binders and Symbaloo. I curate using Pinterest for tech and education and Scoop It for poetry. If you want to subscribe to my Paper li, here is the link.

Trying out Stupeflix to see if it is worth buying. This was my one free video. Just a quick creation. It seems easy enough to use.
MentorMob
Create a playlist for your units or for yourself. I love this site and it is easy to keep it private if you want to. My only beef is that the YouTube videos still allow the suggestions at the end even though I unchecked those options. Hmmm…
Here is the playlist I created for my kids to do this week about Christmas.
Smore Flyer Creation
For my Social Media class from USD, I had to create a flyer or a proposal for a charter school that uses social media. I decided to use an application called Smore that I just learned about from a classmate. It was easy to create and I think it looks pretty attractive. See what you think by going to this link.
Symbaloo
Spelling City Vocabulary Webmix
I just discovered this application that allows you to create web mixes. I haven’t created my own yet, but it seems like a useful, tool. This one was created by another teacher. I found this on the back channel community on Edmodo.
The Flipped Classroom, as most know, has become quite the buzz in education. Its use in higher education has been given a lot of press recently. The purpose of this post is to:
- Provide background for this model of learning with a focus on its use in higher education.
- Identify some problems with its use and implementation that if not addressed, could become just a fading fad.
- Propose a model for implementation based on an experiential cycle of learning model.
Background About the Flipped Classroom
This first section provides information from various articles that describe the flipped classroom, and how it is being discussed and used in educational settings.
In its simplest terms, the flipped classroom is about viewing and/or listening to lectures during one’s own time which frees up face-to-face class time for experiential exercises, group discussion, and question and answer sessions.
It’s called “the flipped classroom.” While there…

Two New Classes Started
My second of four USD classes started this week. It is about social media. My class is embracing Edmodo and I’m thrilled about that. I am excited to see what else we can do related to social media like activating the classroom Twitter account.
Here is a video that I thought was especially well done about how to give the kids the skills they need for the future.
The other course is about flipping my classroom. I am doing some of that now but would love to know how to do it more, especially with fifth graders.
