Getting Out of Their Way

I recently attended ASB Unplugged in Mumbai. The first day was a pre-conference day where I participated in a full day workshop about Diving Deeper into Thinking with Scott McCleod. He was a dynamic presenter and I loved his ideas so I decided to subscribe to his blog, Dangerously Irrelevant. I just received the first email with his latest posting. It contained a number of videos, not just by Scott, that I found inspiring. I am posting the link to one of his where he talks about how we can make the extracurricular the curricular in terms of technology. It isn’t very long so I encourage you to watch it.

For my third USD class, I had to curate sources and resources for the classroom.  I decided to create a Paper li since I hadn’t done one yet.  In the past, I have curated using Live Binders and Symbaloo.  I curate using Pinterest for tech and education and Scoop It for poetry.  If you want to subscribe to my Paper li, here is the link.

Create a playlist for your units or for yourself.  I love this site and it is easy to keep it private if you want to.  My only beef is that the YouTube videos still allow the suggestions at the end even though I unchecked those options.  Hmmm…

Here is the playlist I created for my kids to do this week about Christmas.

The Flipped Classroom, as most know, has become quite the buzz in education.  Its use in higher education has been given a lot of press recently.  The purpose of this post is to:

  1. Provide background for this model of learning with a focus on its use in higher education.
  2. Identify some problems with its use and implementation that if not addressed, could become just a fading fad.
  3. Propose a model for implementation based on an experiential cycle of learning model.

Two New Classes Started

My second of four USD classes started this week.  It is about social media.  My class is embracing Edmodo and I’m thrilled about that.  I am excited to see what else we can do related to social media like activating the classroom Twitter account.

Here is a video that I thought was especially well done about how to give the kids the skills they need for the future.
